Heroes from
Childhood
The tears
reach but I don’t cry
My heroes
from the past I see in my minds eye
Courage
and bravery was so nonchalant for them
Witnessing
life in a way few have before and none since then
I
remember their names and faces until eternity
No flaws,
very human and this is their gift to me
Nicknames
abounded relative to skills appropriately
Super Swede,
Sideways and Super Rat were said affectionately
Risk and
death were a constant threat
Achievement
the generator, stronger than that
A time
before celebrity, when trust was respect
No
intrusion into privacy, lots of characters and a champion-elect
Each
October, we gathered upstate
At a
track named Watkins Glen filled with color, holy real estate
All gone
now but those times live on
I hear the music hauntingly and we’ll always be
young
