Do I identify and hold with you just because we are Jews?

I see those in black hats that scurry and it’s the ghetto cruise

Or perhaps others that obey and wear the skullcaps all day

Then the secular standing alone against oppression from religion

I am Israeli by nationality yet am proud to speak English and be Anglo

I see the cultures of the Middle-East and sometimes feel I’m in Morocco

I reject belief but realize modernity is hated by too many

Irony that those same grab for high technology

Groups over individuality and music that sounds like screeching cats

As an American by conviction I will never embrace that

Food that reeks of garlic and spices that make me wince

I am not a hummus eater or a Middle-Easter

I am an Israeli that speaks English which is the language of liberty

My music is heavy metal and I am not stuck in tradition or the cradle

Get your religious fingers that corrode out of my life

Control freaks and zealots that consider freedom and speech to be strife
