Wrong Mirror

Wrong Mirror

Ancestral worship at the mountain, holy fountain
Wellspring of spirits from where goodness and anger rain down
Primitive emotions of irrational fear, afraid to upset the skeletons leer
Enduring is belief despite logic’s harsh steer

Sacrifice the future to superstition, the imaginary light
Over and again tell the mind ignorance is right
Condemn the men that seek to build the mirror into the night
Stars flickering, mocking, while the moon shines bright

Government is the prostitute paid by the vote
Pretending to be a friend it’s a resolute lout
No caring for the people’s interests but a money sniffing snout
It’ll smile and nod until it’s time for a sacrificial rout

Mirror of virtue seeking knowledge would be the Mauna Kea telescope
Mirror of vice reflecting the witch doctor’s face would be a kaleidoscope
So the primitive has won and the holy mountain will stay as one
But the Hawaiian children cry for they know their future is done
