Ice Water

Ice Water

When you think of love and the face seen is bare
Is that not the loneliest in the world stare?
Emotion in utter despair
The devil’s on the loose out of her lair

Does ice fill your soul when Cupid’s shirked his role?
His arrows all gone so he’s drunk in some forgotten watering hole
Self-pity wrapping itself around your sorry soul
Abandoned by love, what a boring old role

Then tread Main Street and there’s that constant beat
Songs of love perfect and neat
What reality are they locked into?
Perhaps outsiders like us are what broken hearts revert to

Hope is the captive of Hypnos
Nothing to lose other than loss
So gird your determination and grab self-esteem from stagnation
No defeat, for love’s always a trickster to be woken from hibernation
