Intensity

Intensity

Sense of urgency like a potty emergency
Hot flashes as hormones bemoan, intense as royal flushes
Surging elation, heady as rampant inflation
Overwhelming feelings, invisible ocean waves sending you reeling

Emotions driving relentlessly to leave you trying
To conquer life’s unknown ends, listening to your sighing
So thoughts become silent crying to feel nothing
Then rises the shimmering mirage of happiness

For it’s out of reach and tears at your nerves bestowing sadness
Nobody to hear, none to see
You’re invisible to all; you’re below life’s horizon at sea
Intensity of being in the cracks is a torment without relent

Fighting to be free, all you have is determination and you have to pay rent
Your laugh is driven by dry tears; the echo is the happiness of others’ jeers
Intensity is a cry from within that careens into your bedrock
Defiance in your eyes, destiny will not break your stock
