Intermittent
Sleep
Junkyard
dog, loved but abandoned
Skirting
the edge of self-pity
Licking
wounds empty of kisses
Blood
flowed easy from missteps
And after
adrenaline when they picked the fight
Unearned
guilt forced sadness, it’s never right
The winds
of life ridden by decisions
Innocence
and ignorance cause romantic delusions
Belief
that the hands outstretched would never hit
Belief
that there’s benevolent destiny for gentility
But rude
awakenings waited
And
reality is loneliness on an island non-existent
So the
toughness became unrepentant
Confusion
when kindness and a loving hand touches
Not
knowing what to do is their indictment, then the realization
But it’s
late now and, yearning for another chance somehow
