Always Thankful

Always Thankful

Why these tears as Thanksgiving nears?
That place returned to and there was always a peaceful stillness and no tears
Emotions of all remembered now gone
That happiness always seems forever but actually weighs a ton

Is yours an emotion of the cold turned trees?
Autumn leaves on the ground, that crunching sound
The crisp air and aroma of honey roasted almonds
Turkeys not forgiven, basted in the ovens

Scattered thoughts driven by emotion
Do I look upon a Nation wracked by a fading sun?
Holy cow institutions that once united us in fun
Now no longer as they disrespect the very Nation they were blessed to run

I love America because it made me who I am
Instilled in me the idea of individual freedom
Raised my mind to understand reason as the only one
My blood will always be red, white and blue, anon
