Masquerade
Do you
see reality, the abstract flashlight lighting it brightly?
Do you
try not to look away when it gives you a fright?
Does it make you prey harder at night?
Does it make you reach quicker for the substance delight?
Questions that frighten and nerves that tighten
The older you become the more you realize we’re all in
mortality’s net
Frailties are the eye wideners that make you shiver on a
summer’s day
Suddenly there’s evening shade and the demon of death is
smiling at its prey
This is reality’s rock face; see the child suffering and parents
in despair
The tears that fall and fists tight in an angry squall
Confusion and questions for which there’s no answer
The corral of life that cuts as a knife
But witness the human spirit, the deathly sick child
laughing at Disney
In the background we weep for their suffering and misery
Trying to fathom between reason and faith
We arrive at no solution and anyway, the end is death
