Beyond The Face
See the face inscribed by
life
Imprints its map on minds,
in light
Do you imagine their voice
moderated by choice?
Perhaps changed from cries
or shouts for mercy or justice?
Do you remember the day
being thrown across the room?
The strikes that
re-enforced distrust
Time when constant abuse
made you scared to move left or right?
Times when you wished you
had someone to defend your right?
Day of small justice when
you stood up once
It changed and, silence
until the end
Accumulation of injustice,
as you always remember
You can see it all in a
flash from December to December
Beyond the face is the
wonder why there was no flash from the sky
Destruction of faith from
the thought made life fraught
Gradually the realization
of strength made your mind taut
But the effects linger and the scars deep, might
one day be naught
