Cupid’s Torture
When you can’t break thru’
the molecular barrier
Love will stand beyond
constantly rejecting your derrière
Diamonds are soft compared
to Cupid’s wall
It can’t be seen, touched
or looked over, no matter how tall
Your touch becomes a
trigger of corrosion
Looking at a flower sees
it shrivel in an hour
No matter how sweet the
saltiness of love, it spreads to bitter
And your warm embrace
turns to a noose of thistles in mid-winter
This mindset is the pain
of the love reach rejected
A canyon of woe eroded by
your heart’s tears cascaded
Exhaustion from the
loveless prison where you seem to be poison
Sleep does nothing and you
awake hyperactive and screaming
The antidote is an
invisible mixture concocted by alchemists
Bestowed to them by
Cupid’s demons to be given capriciously
So you suffer and each
attempt at love contains a thorn
That weapon of torture which strikes to keep you
forlorn
