Earthly Strain
We are organisms of this
planet
Mother Nature decrees
health or dammit-not
Constantly attacked by
virus or creature
Our own immune system can
be a virulent torture
The human mind so
profound, our saving grace in the fray
Aristotle’s Lyceum
teaching Man to think not pray
This idea of use to Darwin,
unravelin’ somethin’ startlin’
Without which we would not
have immunobiology darlin’s
Life’s irony is the
chocolate around our poisoning cherries
For these indomitable
pathogens also protect our merry derrières
But oh the strife from
infection’s bite
Condition misery from no
antigen allergic respite
Is this callous humor from
a deity that takes curious delight?
Or a champion of Nature
that ensures a balanced fight?
Those that endure this
contest felt will baulk at this thought
But be happy that
Aristotle taught thought
