Burning

Burning

Do you turn against me or want me to cry okay?
Do you hear the sadness of MLK or RFK?
Do you know of Indianapolis 1968?
Do you understand the spirit of MLK or RFK now bereft?

The virus that refuses to die, over the Mississippi lies
Take this commotion and witness division in a nation that ties
Blood spilled in a world where cold emotion witnesses devotion
Generations still warm from Mississippi Burning, now devolution

It is not the concretes that applies or the fires that rise
But the loss of the message from true leaders in passage
Listen to those hurting without excusing those hunting
Symbolic excuses razing livelihoods never validating

Our America, that announcement of love and liberty
When did we become a nation celebrating violent inhumanity?
The dream of a great man for a People to be “free at last”
This the song that must be sung to get away from our past
