The Return Home

The Return Home – Yom Hatzmaut Apr 21 2015

From the rubble of the Second Temple to the ashes of the Second World War camps
The Return was never secondary
A barren land of swamps ruled by anopheles
Came its Children once again and rain fell where once was hopelessness

Herzl arose, then Moses and David with Ariel to build
Mad imaginations only could conceive such a sublime guild
But a call for two thousand years defeated at last Hadrian’s will
Outnumbered, the phoenix commenced once again a genesis

Blood flowed until the Hordes cried enough
A new breed called Israeli, had been forged in battle, tough
From corners of the world, the chosen were the wanderers no more
Alone with scars rejected, they became free warriors in war

That beginning seems long ago, with tall buildings and hi-tech seams
Proudly high the blue and white flag flies, among the Nations it gleams
Though the threat is not tempered it will always be met
Celebrate Independence in strength with courage, eyes set
