Without Them

Without Them

When you’re alone in your quest
Led at life’s behest
No ally to cheer your steer
They dwell inside the bilges of pessimism’s jeer

Now you know their bitterness within
They allow it to sew control and win
Do you make excuses for their bland faces?
Your desire to believe loyalty blinds to truth’s traces

Sadness now fills love’s spaces
Puzzlement makes you feel like Julius Ceasar
Betrayal profound in common with that Roman geezer
So die you too? – nay! You stand as cold as a freezer
Toughness in determination forged by life’s grinder

Push on as usual and stand alone wielding your razor
Will any make the cut of ally or is it back to searching?
Forgiveness is a charm that covers cracks and leaching
The conundrum is how to judge deserving
